Eradicating motorcycle deaths
DocBike is a well researched, exciting and innovative motorcycle safety partnership. Initially it was a local collaboration between PC Chris Smith (Dorset Police BikeSafe) and Dr Ian Mew (Intensive Care and Air Ambulance Doctor). The project has since evolved a compelling national strategy and is now partnered with The Trauma Audit and Research Network (TARN), with a remit to expand national understanding of motorcycle accident prevalence and the effectiveness of PPE.
DocBike is invested in the mission of eradicating motorcycle deaths through engagement, injury prevention, education and roadside critical care. [make a donation]
UK's first DocBike
The project initially involved teaching life saving skills to local motorcycle riders at Biker Down and at BikeSafe courses. Not happy to just to teach these skills to riders, Dr Ian Mew wanted to take them to the roadside and so Dorset ‘Doctor Bike’ was born. Through Dorset Police, PC Chris Smith was able to source a BMW Police Spec Motorcycle (R1200RTP) which was re-badged as the UK’s first “Doctor” bike.
