Hazard perception guide
This short video explains how to complete and pass the DVSA hazard perception test. All of the videos in the hazard perception test have at least one ‘developing hazard’ and one of the video clips has two. During the hazard perception test, participants should click the mouse button when they see a developing hazard. A ‘developing hazard’ is something that would cause a rider to take action, like having to change speed or change direction.
With each successful click of the mouse, a red flag is shown at the bottom of the screen, with up to five points awarded for each developing hazard. It is important to understand the difference between a ‘potential hazard’ and a ‘developing hazard’. The video explains this very clearly. During the hazard perception video clips, points are awarded according to how soon the developing hazards are identified. The key to passing the test is to concentrate and only to click where action would be required.
