How much should ERS & motorcycle training cost?
Enhanced Rider Scheme costs
DVSA Enhanced Rider Scheme (Q&A for ERS Instructors)
Asked by: Simon Hayes, RMT Motorcycle Training (West Midlands)
Answered by Chris Parr, Assistant Chief Driving Examiner (DVSA)
Question: Asked by Simon Hayes, RMT Motorcycle Training (West Midlands) – “Chris – it’s Simon Hayes from RMT Motorcycle Training in the Midlands. I’ve a question for you regarding ERS pricing. I’ve always been frustrated by how some Instructors and ATB’s are seemingly motivated to charge the least and fall into the trap of being highly cost competitive. There was a useful DVSA survey a while back that showed how training school customers are more concerned about quality and less concerned about price. Could you tell us a little more about this survey and offer your own thoughts?”

DVSA response
Answer: Hi Simon and thanks for the question. As you know, the DVSA don’t specify what individual instructors can charge to deliver their training, but what I would say is that if you do refer to the survey, people are prepared to pay for quality training and the Enhanced Rider Scheme is a quality product. It’s risk based. It’s going to teach people skills that they need – really important skills that may even be life saving. Why not promote it as a premium product and don’t undervalue the product you are selling and charge a fee that’s going to be beneficial for your business.

Resources for ERS instructors & ATB's
The Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) resources and information on this page are from a DVSA webinar that was run in association with VideoBiker on the 12th July 2018. The content of this ERS webinar (and this page) is aimed at motorcycle training schools (ATB’s) and motorcycle instructors.

It will therefore have limited value for non-instructors, who are advised to contact their local motorcycle training school (ATB) for the latest up-to-date ERS information. The full webinar is available to all instructors via VideoBiker membership (free) – join here.
