DVSA Enhanced Rider Scheme (Q&A for ERS Instructors)
Asked by: Tony Richardson, Surrey Riders
Answered by Chris Parr, Assistant Chief Driving Examiner (DVSA)
Question: Jez Tromans (VideoBiker) asking question on behalf of Tony Richardson (Surrey Riders) – “With all the ERS enhancements, updates and inevitable increased demand – does the DVSA have sufficient resources in place to fully support the Enhanced Rider Scheme?”

DVSA response
Answer: Thanks for the question – really good question and a really good opportunity to promote the excellent team we have here at the DVSA. So, the CBT admin team are dealing with all the enquiries about the Enhanced Rider Scheme and we have a dedicated email line and you can phone the ERS team on the dedicated phone line that is listed on the website and any questions that the team are unable to deal with will be forwarded to me – so we have no problems dealing with all the enquiries. We’ve had a few issues with certificates for candidates completing ERS, but that’s all been dealt with now.
On the media side, we have a full media team here at the DVSA – so there is a communications plan that has been developed for this year and into next spring (2019). We are looking at doing some filming and promoting ERS through YouTube and the DVSA’s YouTube channel early next year, ready for the new biking season. On the enforcement side we have a very strong team of enforcement managers now, specifically on the motorcycle side who are going to administer all of the quality assurance checks for ERS. All-in-all, we have a really strong team who are very committed to ERS and we will be continuing to promote it throughout the year and in to 2019.

Resources for ERS instructors & ATB's
The Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) resources and information on this page are from a DVSA webinar that was run in association with VideoBiker on the 12th July 2018. The content of this ERS webinar (and this page) is aimed at motorcycle training schools (ATB’s) and motorcycle instructors.

It will therefore have limited value for non-instructors, who are advised to contact their local motorcycle training school (ATB) for the latest up-to-date ERS information. The full webinar is available to all instructors via VideoBiker membership (free) – join here.
