Frequency of ERS standards checks
Time of first DVSA standards check for new ERS instructors
DVSA Enhanced Rider Scheme (Q&A for ERS Instructors)
Asked by: Anne Hodgkins, Inner Circle Training
Answered by Chris Parr, Assistant Chief Driving Examiner (DVSA)
Question: Jez Tromans (VideoBiker) asking question on behalf of Anne Hodgkins from Inner Circle Training (Stockport) – “How soon after gaining the Enhanced Rider Scheme teaching qualification will the DVSA standards check be done? And can the instructor teach ERS before the standards check has been carried out?”

DVSA response
Answer: Hi Anne. Thanks for the question. If you are a DAS instructor who is delivering Enhanced Rider Scheme training, then your standards check will be undertaken depending on where you are on our priority list. So we list people by the length of time since a DVSA Enforcement Examiner has been out to visit you. As for when you can teach ERS – as soon as you are qualified, as soon as you have your ERS badge (you must be in receipt of your badge), then you can deliver training. If you are a non-DAS instructor and you’ve registered independently through one of the prior accredited courses, you will go straight on to the check-test priority list and we will get out to see you, hopefully within the first three or four months of registering to deliver ERS training.

Resources for ERS instructors & ATB's
The Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) resources and information on this page are from a DVSA webinar that was run in association with VideoBiker on the 12th July 2018. The content of this ERS webinar (and this page) is aimed at motorcycle training schools (ATB’s) and motorcycle instructors.

It will therefore have limited value for non-instructors, who are advised to contact their local motorcycle training school (ATB) for the latest up-to-date ERS information. The full webinar is available to all instructors via VideoBiker membership (free) – join here.
