Raising the status of ERS
Question: Asked by Paul Dickinson, Advanced Motorcycle Training (Bristol) – “Hi Chris. (really great to see the DVSA reaching out to the industry in this way) – I’m a strong advocate of post-test training and especially, that full-time DVSA instructors – are best qualified to deliver it. Frustratingly, recent years have seen other organisations cornering the market. The industry needs to make a stand on this and let the riding public know the value of ERS. So, my question – Working with the DVSA, what can the industry do to raise the status of ERS and to encourage more participation from riders at all levels. “
Answer: Thanks Paul – thanks for coming on. Again, we have touched on this several times. It’s down the training schools doing more with their ATB clients i.e. with the combined 50,000 candidates who come for test each year. It’s about promoting the Enhanced Rider Scheme to those customers as soon as they come into an ATB. The DVSA will continue to push and build ERS and we are aiming it at those newly qualified riders and those riders who come to a DVSA test centre. They will all be getting a leaflet and will hopefully see the posters. When you bring your candidates to the test centre, give them a nudge and let them know that the DVSA is advertising ERS and help them to understand how much importance the DVSA places on ERS.

Resources for ERS instructors & ATB's
The Enhanced Rider Scheme (ERS) resources and information on this page are from a DVSA webinar that was run in association with VideoBiker on the 12th July 2018. The content of this ERS webinar (and this page) is aimed at motorcycle training schools (ATB’s) and motorcycle instructors.
It will therefore have limited value for non-instructors, who are advised to contact their local motorcycle training school (ATB) for the latest up-to-date ERS information. The full webinar is available to all instructors via VideoBiker membership (free) – join here.
