For nearly two decades Mark Smith dreamed of riding a motorcycle. In 2010, following his CBT, that dream was realised and after successfully completing the Direct Access Scheme, Mark purchased a brand new Kawasaki Versys. After just a few weeks, Mark realised just how vulnerable he was and that all his years driving a car were of limited value. He recognised the importance of extending his training and joined an advanced riders club, where he took the opportunity to learn from more experienced riders. Marks goal was to get advanced training and to become a better, safer rider. This resulted in Mark attaining his RoSPA Gold Advanced Riding Certificate.
Mark has also owned a BMW K1300S, currently rides a Ducati Multistrada (his second) and comments that motorcycling is a truly liberating experience – a life changer!
Motorcycling is truly liberating
Talking about his experiences on two wheels, Mark explains, “I now have many more friends as a result motorcycle riding. I met many through the riders club and the many trips they arranged in the UK and Europe. I now organise trips of my own to Europe. In the last 2 years I’ve visited the Black Forest in Germany and the Pyrenees in Northern Spain. So in my opinion, motorcycling is truly liberating. It’s changed my life.”
